The Sacramento Claims Association continued the status quo, drawing approximately 100 people to the May 8, 2008 luncheon meeting, as the group moved back to the main club house at Lions Gate Hotel and Conference Center.
Guest speaker, Bryan Hill, PE, of EFI Global, treated the members and guests onhand to an interesting and very informative presentation on roof trusses: "When NOT to Trust Your Truss". Mr. Hill utilized a well-put-together PowerPoint presentation to illustrate proper design specs for various roof truss systems.
Any damage to a truss system, by California law, really must be inspected and evaluated ed by an engineer. "You're almost stuck with punting to a professional to assess damage," Hill said.
Included in his presentation Hill covered changes to the California Building Code. New truss load requirements offer specific load level re-enforcement depending on a variety of uses. He ran through the gamut.
Numerous people commented after the meeting on what an informative presentation it was. "I never thought I could learn so much useful information about roof trusses," said one attendee.
The presentation also covered visual assessments on lumber characteristics, fastener plates, and fire, wind or water damage to roof systems.
Bryan Hill has a Professional Civil Engineer who specializes in wooden truss design and repair. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is licensed to CA, CO, NM and NV.
