So ~ Really, What Is Strict Liability Exactly?
Primer on Products Liability at October SCA
By Marjorie Hickey, Carl Warren & Company
October’s Meeting brought yet another excellent turn out for the Sacramento Claims Association Luncheon. We continue to prove that our Sacramento Claims Association is far and away the best claims association in all of California!
Chris Yaw, our Vice President did a great job stepping up and filling in Don’s shoes as he was gone on vacation; no doubt it was a well deserved vacation. Before Chris really started the meeting, she called upon Bryan Harrison to step up to the podium. Byran certainly looked a bit befuddled but it all made sense when Chris wanted to recognize him for the wonderful job he did coordinating CCNC in September. Bryan was recognized as an AWESOME LEADER.
We all know and love Bryan as he circulates around the lunch meetings snapping one picture after another. (Speaking for myself, all I ask is that if Bryan does happen to take a candid shot of me, he makes me appear to be 25 years old!) Bryan really does an excellent job no matter what he is working on so recognizing him at the October meeting was perfect.
Chris also shared with us that the SCA had received a wonderful Thank You letter from Acres of Hope. Hopefully, everyone will have an opportunity to read it.
There was an additional announcement about the four openings on the SCA Board of Directors. If you have any interest in helping to keep our organization moving ahead in a positive manner, the Board could sure use your help! Give it some thought! As Don says, “Pay it Forward.”
We had a very informative speaker, Dave Worthington, a partner with the Law Firm of Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard and Smith. His presentation was titled “Primer on Products Liability.” Dave was introduced by our very own Michael Von Haenel, a member of the Board and serving on the Speaker’s Committee. Dave had quite a group of young associates with him and he even put them to the test during his presentation.
Editor’s Note: one online definition of “strict liability” stated: “Absolute legal responsibility for an injury that can be imposed on the wrongdoer without proof of carelessness or fault.”
