I am truly honored to have been elected president of the Sacramento Claims association. I appreciate that the members of the Executive Board have the confidence in me to lead our organization in the coming year.
I first want to recognize the enormous contributions by Art Coussoulis both as past president as well as the chair of the winter party, located once again at Lionsgate Hotel this year. Barbara Prosch handled the decorations which were once again spectacular. Cata Jimenez handled all the reservations and ticket sales, which went off without a hitch. Bryan Harrison and his lovely wife, Patricia, set up a photo booth to photograph all attendees as they arrived. They also worked their way through the packed house to take numerous candid photographs of the attendees in their gala theme (Hollywood & The Silver Screen) attire. Lionsgate and their staff completed their assigned tasks in with military speed and efficiency. Most of you are aware that this was once the officers club for the McClellan Air Force Base, but the vestiges of that era are long gone. Lionsgate is a great venue and I would encourage you all to stop in for the use of its restaurant for your business lunches.
I wish to congratulate the new members of our SCA board: Cathrin Nevin, of Carl Warren and Company; Linda Klass, of Farmers Insurance; Ernie Guerra, of CIG Insurance; John Morgan, of Guide One Insurance; and Jon Aronson, of P.W. Stephens Environmental.
For those of you that are not familiar with me, I am a second generation insurance adjuster. My father, James Shepherd, in 1956 was made a charter member of the Sacramento Claims Manager’s Association, which later became the Sacramento Claims Association. I started in this business with my father at Shepherd Insurance Adjusters in Auburn, CA in February of 1974, and attended my first meeting of the SCA that same month. I have served on the board of directors on three occasions over the years and was your Vice President for the past two years.
Our paramount goal for this upcoming year is to entice a larger participation by insurance adjusters at the meetings and educational seminars. As you can see we have succeeded in increasing the participation of adjusters on our board of directors this year and hope that this will stimulate a greater participation of the adjuster community. Our Strategic Committee was developed to this end. The chairman this committee, again this year, is Bob Bettazato. Part of his duties are to schedule our educational speakers. Bob is doing a great job in lining up a schedule of speakers designed to address the needs of the property, casualty and auto adjusters. Bob was the author of the questionnaires you all have been filling out at the past few luncheons. As a result of numerous suggestions we plan on having our first evening meeting in years. For the first 25 years or so, all of our meetings except the October all day seminar, were held in the evenings.
The officers and board members of the SCA are very much committed to making this best year in our organization’s history. We are always open to any suggestions to improve our performance to that goal. I thank you all for your continued support and participation.
