Walking On... Sunshine

Message from SCA President Steve Moore
August/Sept 2017

“For a second you were flying
Like you always wanted to
Now you’ll fly forever
In skies of azure blue
We’ll see your smile in every ray
Of sunshine after rain
And hear the echo of your laughter
Over all the pain…”

Victoria Bruce

There has been a little less sunshine in the SCA skies the last several weeks due to the loss of Cathrin Nevin. Last Friday, during a wonderful Celebration of Life, we said some goodbyes and tried to start the healing process. There were many fantastic and uplifting memories shared about Cathrin, all of which brought a smile to my face and laugh out loud body shakes. Cathrin was a very important part of our association and will be missed so very much. Things are still happening with Cathrin’s family and the SCA is trying to stay updated. Please visit our website for information on how to help. And so, in quiet retrospect the SCA continues “walking on…”

The annual SCA River Cats game was once again a big success for our association! We had more than 50 people show up for an All-American barbeque, baseball game, and post game fireworks. Although our River Cats lost, the game was still exciting to watch and the group made the best of it. The highlight of my night was when a foul ball was hit up into our section. The fact that it was the closest I had ever been to a foul ball at a professional game was not the good part, the ball was just too far away for me to catch. The best part was definitely Tyler McCurley’s (the son of our esteemed Treasurer Jim McCurley) agility and gymnastic prowess in avoiding the high speed projectile thus exposing his loved ones to potential harm. No one was harmed by the speeding bullet, and yes, Tyler did get some grief from the surrounding crowd. Tyler, looking forward to seeing you next year with a glove!

The Claims Conference of Northern California (CCNC) is the next super huge extravaganza for the SCA and all other claims associations! The three day event is scheduled for September 13 – 15, 2017, at the McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento. For more information please visit the SCA website and/or ClaimsConference.org. Please register pronto.

For October, the SCA has once again secured a spot at Top Golf for the next Social event! Last year’s event was well attended and the sponsorships were purchased very quickly. This year’s event should be even better with new sponsorship packages available. Please revisit the SCA website for more information. December’s luncheon at the Lions Gate Hotel will be a busy one as we will hold our annual elections, the canned food drive, and our annual Charities program. Please visit our website for more information and to reserve your spot at the luncheon.
